Principal's Spotlight on Learning: Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)

Principal's Spotlight on Learning

by: Debbie Reid, interim principal

Every Wednesday our staff participates in Professional Learning Communities, PLC. During the last month we have been doing a lot of work to support our students here at Nelson. Our teachers have been hard at work crafting a new vision and collective commitments for Nelson. We want to ensure that every student is getting what they need.

Our Vision

At Nelson Elementary we foster a learning community where all know they are valued and work together to persevere in all circumstances.

Collective Commitments

We promise to provide a welcoming and safe environment for students, staff and community members.

We promise to utilize a variety of research based instructional strategies to ensure student learning.

We promise to work together to establish a learning environment where children are respectful, honest, safe and responsible.

We promise to work collaboratively to use data to help meet the needs of the whole child.

Our teachers have also been working in PLC's to desegregate data to determine what each student needs in their classroom. They have looked at individual data to determine small group intervention and extension. These small group interventions occur during grade level WIN times. WIN stands for What I Need. Ask your student what they are doing during WIN time!
